A Table for Every Season
A Table for Every Season
I don't think we need to completely redecorate our homes every three months.
But I absolutely change my table.
Probably far too often.
One of my favourite things about tablescaping is that you can make a room feel completely different simply by changing a few pieces on the table.
Spring
This is when I want everything to feel a little delicate again.
Soft greens, beautiful glass, crumpled linen and whatever has started appearing in the garden.
Don't overdo the flowers. A few stems in little glasses dotted down the table can be much prettier than one enormous arrangement.
Summer
Summer tables should be fun.
This is where the Clementine Suite comes into its own for me.
Amber glass, citrus colours, patterned plates, bowls piled with fruit and absolutely no concern about everything being perfectly coordinated.
Move everything outside, put bottles in ice buckets and let the table get slightly chaotic as the afternoon turns into evening.
That's the good bit.
Autumn
Autumn is possibly my favourite.
Amber glass suddenly looks completely different. Add darker linen, figs, pears, dahlias and lots of candlelight and everything becomes richer.
You don't need pumpkins everywhere to announce that October has arrived.
Winter
And then we can go a little bit mad.
Crystal, silver, bows, beautiful candlesticks, dark colours and ridiculous quantities of candlelight.
Winter is when I want a table to feel decadent.
Our Marie Antoinette Suite was made for exactly this sort of moment — romantic, slightly theatrical and just the right side of too much.
Because tables should change with us.
Sometimes I want quiet and simple.
Sometimes I want lemons and stripes in the garden.
And occasionally I want to drink champagne from cut crystal surrounded by bows.
There should be room for all of it.
